Strengthen your neighborhood: Fall 2024 Citizens Academy applications open [Video]

FOCUS Greater Syracuse has opened applications for its esteemed fall 2024 Citizens Academy. Applications will be accepted until Sunday, Aug. 4, offering an opportunity for the community to deepen their understanding of local governance and community involvement.

Citizens Academy is an interactive 11-week educational program designed to familiarize participants with the structure of local governments, funding mechanisms for services, and strategies for community engagement. Through sessions focused on economic vitality, social equity, and environmental health, participants gain insights essential for active civic participation.

“Citizens Academy has empowered over 675 alumni from diverse backgrounds, including public officials, educators, entrepreneurs, and students,” said Program Director Alicia Ernest. “Participants not only learn directly from government officials and community leaders but also build lasting connections with fellow residents passionate about shaping Onondaga County’s future.”
