MoneyHunt, created by Miles Spencer & Cliff Ennico, was a seminal startup show of the dotcom era. Miles, Cliff and a MoneyHunt Mentor joined each MoneyHunt show. Each guest had 8 minutes to detail key categories like Product, Market, Competition, Management, Money, and Uses.

The final segment was the review session, where the pitches of each guest were debated and awarded thumbs up or down. Beginning in Season Six, MoneyHunt began awarding cash in the form of convertible debt (leaving the pricing of the equity to subsequent investors).

Miles Spencer and Cliff Ennico first began on a cable-access station in Connecticut in 1995 and aired on more than 130 PBS outlets and 13 countries overseas until 2005. Sometimes referred to as the grandaddy of the later Dragons Den and Shark Tank, MoneyHunt featured business start-up hopefuls pitching their ideas to a panel of reviewers that includes successful entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. After 12 minutes the panelists give either a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down. Although appearances on Money Hunt could be confidence shattering, many learned valuable lessons that enabled them to raise capital and start their businesses outside the show (though the show eventually also offered investment prizes. Because its advice is much more hard-nosed than the rosy, get-rich-quick platitudes offered by many others, Money Hunt is uniquely valuable.
